I don’t know about you, but I forget about the importance of tires. Basically, if they are not flat or bald – they’re doing the job. Recently I took my car in for a slow leak repair and the tire shop told me I needed new tires. I was skeptical because I’d just been to the dealer for a recall repair and they’d said the tires were good (they do a tread check as part of every check in).
So, I started reading a little and researching a little. Then started noticing “hmm, my steering wheel does have a little shimmy” and “arrgh, my car is loud”. And the bone jarring thumps if I didn’t miss the pothole or frost heave…yikes!
I finally bit the bullet and bought tires, and I sprang for middle of the road tires. Not Michelin but still decent tires. I picked up my car yesterday and I feel like it’s brand new!! It’s quiet, the ride is comfortable (I have a stiff suspension so the ride will always be a little “firm”), the steering is amazing and I glide over potholes.
Just my little nudge, if you tires are more than a couple of years old and/or 25K miles (depends on tires / driving style) it may be worth replacing them.
