As I come across ideas that I want to explore further I save them to a file called “writing ideas”, this post about “The 4 Myths of Happiness” articulated my thoughts and feelings so well I had to share it in it’s entirety.
I definitely have moments of joy, delight, raucous laughter – but I don’t believe I’ve ever been truly at ease/peace/content for extended periods of time. I’m sure for me it’s a mix of nature (biological) and nurture (learned from parents) – for whom it was also a mix of nature/nurture.
The most beneficial thing for me has been a mix of “tools” (diet, exercise, meditation), age (stuff does get easier) and validation. Brooke Jean’s essay provided validation on a topic I’ve internally ruminated on for years. If you’ve wrestled with these 4 believes – please read her article The 4 Myths of Happiness..
1. Happiness is the natural state for all human beings.
2. If we’re not happy, we’re defective.
3. To create a better life, we must get rid of negative thinking.
4. We should be able to control what we think and feel.
