I’ve long believed that mindfulness and meditation are tools that help to calm anxiety, bring clarity and promote overall health.
And I never have enough time and/or focus.
I have been stretching every morning for 10-20 minutes, this is a MUST for me physically, I pay for it when I don’t.
And the mindfulness community “rules” have relaxed. As a kid when meditation was coming into my awareness it meant 30-60 minutes of torture silent, blank minded breathing. Now the message is much more, do what you can, when you can. That is achievable!!
The other thing that happened is I tripped on this article Neuroscience Says Listening to This Song Reduces Anxiety by Up to 65 Percent.
“According to Dr. David Lewis-Hodgson of Mindlab International, which conducted the research, the top song produced a greater state of relaxation than any other music tested to date.
In fact, listening to that one song — “Weightless” — resulted in a striking 65 percent reduction in participants’ overall anxiety, and a 35 percent reduction in their usual physiological resting rates.”
Weightless is ~8 minutes long, and I can listen to it while stretching! Since 2017 when I first read this I’ve started mixing up my mornings. Some days it’s my “scientific song list” other days it’s some of the short guided meditations I’ve found on YouTube. Either way I’m combing physical health (stretching) and mental health (mindfulness) and I feel a difference.
